The GTA roleplay map just got a lot smaller. RAGE:MP, one of the longest-running GTA V multiplayer platforms, shuts down completely on August 31, 2026. According to Take-Two's cease-and-desist and the platform's own wind-down announcement, the publisher made clear that FiveM is now the only authorized platform for GTA 5 multiplayer modding. Public server listings closed back in June, and full support — client, backend, everything — ends this weekend.

It was a long farewell. alt:V already closed its doors on July 6, going fully offline after nine years as FiveM's biggest rival. Now, with RAGE:MP's infrastructure switching off days from now, the consolidation Ten-Two set in motion is essentially complete: FiveM is the one authorized home for custom GTA 5 servers.

What this means for players is simple in the best sense. Whichever community you came from, there is no longer a reason to keep one foot in another client — the decision is made for you. The question is no longer which platform, but which server. If you came for serious, story-first roleplay

The heart of GTA roleplay has always been the whitelisted serious-RP scene, and a RAGE:MP-heavy crowd tends to want exactly that. NoPixel Public is the public face of the world's most famous RP server — serious RP with a whitelist, and the server that made most players hear the word "NoPixel" in the first place. If you want the closest thing to the "big league" experience without an application process, this is the natural landing spot.

For a heavy economy angle layered onto serious RP, Eclipse RP runs one of the most established operations around — massive roleplay with voice chat and a genuinely complex in-game economy, all with a serious-RP flag. It is the kind of server where your character's profession, reputation and bank balance carry real weight from your first hour.

If content creation and storytelling matter more than strict immersion, Grizzley World leans into exactly that — serious RP with a whitelist, built around creating moments worth clipping and telling.

If you want to walk in without an application

Whitelists are the enemy of the impulse player, and not everyone wants to write an application before their first drive down the strip. Two servers here are explicitly light-RP and open-door.

Grand RP is the pick if you want a large international community with multiple language servers — light RP with an economy, and about the easiest way to find people who speak your language on day one. It is built for scale, and it shows in how easy it is to find something to do.

For controller players and anyone who wants a tuned, forgiving experience, Lucid City advertises optimization for controller players with custom scripts — serious RP for people who want to play on their own terms.

If you are a racing and freeroam player

Roleplay is far from the whole story. RSM Freeroam is the most popular freeroam server on FiveM, and the natural destination for anyone coming from RAGE:MP's more freeform, less story-driven communities — freeroam and racing flags, and thousands of custom vehicles. If your RAGE:MP nights were about the car scene rather than the character sheet, this is where you want to point your cursor first.

If you want something you cannot find anywhere else

The end of a rival platform is a good moment to remember that server variety is the reason FiveM survived the shake-up. Two entries here are genuinely unlike anything else on the list.

Transport Tycoon is a logistics-and-economy specialist — an economy, roleplay and custom server built entirely around trucking, hauling and the business of moving freight. It is the anti-freeroam: calm, methodical and quietly absorbing, and a perfect palate cleanser if your previous server was pure chaos.

Then there is the 1980s. Ignite Roleplay drops you into a retro roleplay server set in the decade of neon, synth and shoulder pads — a genuinely unique hook that pulls a completely different crowd from the modern-day grind. If you want your roleplay to double as a change of era, it is the only one on this list offering that.

What to expect from the migration

There are two practical things to know as these communities move. First, the platforms people are fleeing are not coming back: RAGE:MP's official statement framed it as a structured wind-down at Take-Two's request, and alt:V's was an agreed staged closure. This is not a temporary gap; FiveM is the destination, full stop.

Second, FiveM's own direction this year lines up with the consolidation. FiveM for GTA V Enhanced has been live in early access since July 21, 2026, adding higher sync rates, improved stability and better performance for server owners who have migrated their builds. It is still labelled early access and Cfx.re warns of bugs and crashes — so if stability matters more than the newest features, plenty of servers are staying on the legacy client for now. Either way, the net result for players is a healthier platform with real performance headroom, and a choice of server types wide enough that nobody has to settle.

If you are arriving this week from a dying platform, do not overthink it.
