The biggest change to the GTA roleplay scene in years is finally here. On July 21, 2026, Cfx.re released FiveM for GTA V Enhanced into early access, bringing roleplay servers the modern rendering and ray tracing of GTA V's Enhanced Edition for the first time. The team's announcement on the Cfx.re forum was careful to frame it exactly as it is: an early access framework that "will contain bugs and missing features," offered to anyone who wants to run their server on it.
If you are a player deciding where to land next, the practical questions are the ones this post is about — what actually changed, what still needs to wait, and how the server landscape on GameListZone lines up with it.
The headline numbers
The marketing for the Enhanced client leans on three numbers, and they are worth knowing before you read anything about a server's "Enhanced build":
- 120 Hz sync. According to the Var FiveM migration guide, server synchronization runs up to 120 Hz on Enhanced — a big step up from the rates most Legacy servers run.
- Less memory. The same guide cites up to 50% less RAM per player, which is the reason many busy servers are looking at Enhanced for a stability win on big populations.
- Up to 2,048 players. Cfx.re's March development update explains that the OneSync networking engine was rebuilt from the ground up for Enhanced, with server capacity raised to 2,048 players — far beyond what GTA Online's own lobbies can hold.
None of that is vaporware — it is all in the early access client right now. But there are two important caveats sitting right next to those numbers.
It runs alongside Legacy — not instead of it
The single most important fact for players: FiveM for GTA V Enhanced is a separate client, not an upgrade that Legacy servers get automatically. It runs alongside FiveM Legacy, and there is no cross-play between the two (respawnhost, Var FiveM).
That matters because it means a server cannot quietly move everyone over overnight. When a community you play on says it is "migrating to Enhanced," it is spinning up a new client and moving its community onto it — the Legacy build either keeps running or is retired. Some big communities are already moving: GTA World announced in its August 2026 community update that it is preparing its "biggest change yet" — a migration towards FiveM.
The second caveat is scripts. Early access has no Asset Escrow support yet, which, as Var FiveM notes, blocks most paid scripts from running on Enhanced. So a server running a heavily custom economy built on commercial scripts is not a candidate for an overnight move — which is exactly why the launch is early access and why the migration wave is going to be gradual.

NoPixel Public — the public version of the world's most famous RP server, running serious roleplay on a whitelist — is the one to watch as the community weighs an Enhanced move. Likewise Eclipse RP, a massive serious-RP server with voice chat and a complex economy, is the kind of large-population community that stands to gain the most from 120 Hz sync and the memory savings when it does make the jump.
But early access is not for everyone, and it is worth saying plainly: most of the best roleplay on this directory is still on Legacy today, and that is fine. Grand RP, the large international light-RP and economy server with multiple language communities, has historically run on the older client; the same goes for New Day RP and BadlandsRP, both whitelisted serious-roleplay communities where the priority is a settled, stable experience over the latest rendering features. If your goal is immersion without beta-testing your home server, waiting for those communities to announce their own timelines is the sensible play.
Where Enhanced is already a clear win
There is one corner of the scene where Enhanced is an obvious upgrade, and it is the one the numbers point to: freeroam and racing.
RSM Freeroam, the most popular freeroam server on FiveM with thousands of custom vehicles, is exactly the kind of server that benefits from modern rendering and the rebuilt OneSync. High speed, lots of players in one area, constant asset streaming — that is where 120 Hz sync and the memory improvements are felt immediately. If you are picking a server right now purely for how it looks and how smoothly it streams, an Enhanced freeroam build is the first thing to try.
Ignite Roleplay is the interesting middle case. It is a retro roleplay server set in the 1980s — a period-styled world where the aesthetic is the product. A move to Enhanced's modern rendering would be a creative decision, not an obvious technical one, and it is the kind of call its community will make deliberately. And Transport Tycoon, the logistics-focused economy server built around trucking and custom systems, is a reminder that not every great server lives or dies on graphics — its appeal is entirely in its simulation depth, and it will run wherever its framework supports it.
What to do right now
Three honest pieces of advice for a player choosing where to land in the next few weeks:
- If you want the newest experience, find a FiveM server that has announced an Enhanced build and give the early access client a shot — but expect bugs, as Cfx.re itself warns.
- If you want the most stable roleplay, the Legacy build is still the backbone of the scene. Communities like Grand RP, Eclipse RP, BadlandsRP and New Day RP are not going anywhere, and none of them have vanished from the directory.
- If you are torn, look at what a server actually runs before you judge it on looks — the version and framework are listed on every server page in the GTA V section.
The FiveM Enhanced launch is the real story of the month for GTA roleplay, and the migration is going to unfold over weeks and months, not days.
