nopixel V Is Live: What the First Official GTA RP Server Actually Brings (and Where the Rest of Us Play)
Rockstar-backed nopixel V's closed beta went live September 8 with a rebuilt Los Santos, but it is invite-only and still buggy — here is what arrived and where FiveM players land in the meantime.

nopixel V Is Live: Rockstar's First Official GTA RP Server, Three Weeks In
On September 1, Rockstar used its own newswire to announce something it had never done before: official backing for a roleplay server. nopixel V — a full-scale rebuild of GTA V's most famous roleplay world, made with the NoPixel team — entered a closed beta a week later, on September 8, running directly through the Rockstar Games Launcher rather than a third-party platform.
Three weeks on, it is still a closed, invite-only beta, and most of the community is watching it rather than playing it. Here is what the launch actually brought, what has gone wrong since, and where everyone else has been landing in the meantime.
What arrived on September 8
The headline of the announcement is nopixel V's new Los Santos. According to the Newswire reveal, the server adds the Mile High Club finally seeing completion in the shape of the Pixel Hotel & Casino, plus new districts in the city, and overhauls the character creator so roleplayers have more ways to build a distinctive character. Rockstar described it as less a season update and more the next evolution of the GTAV roleplay community, several years in the making.
The catch is access. nopixel V launched as an invite-only beta for a few hundred invited content creators — roughly 439 per TweakTown's reporting — with invited players entering through the Rockstar Games Launcher. There is no open sign-up and no public date to widen it: a roster checked on September 18 still shows the beta open only to its invite list, per hone.gg.
The launch hasn't been smooth
A closed beta is supposed to be rough, but nopixel V's first days were rougher than most. Sportskeeda reported the launch marred by crashes and a long list of technical problems, and GTA RP Server noted that a week in Rockstar's support site had published a known-issues list covering performance, networking and content bugs. None of that is surprising for a beta of a project this size — but it does underline how early the whole thing still is.
The one thing that has reached everyone is the marketing. Rockstar attached a Twitch Drops campaign to the launch that GTA RP Server says ran through September 30, putting GTA Online rewards in front of every viewer in Twitch's GTAV category. Rockstar has also teased what comes next — expanded access, a new in-game overlay and upcoming events, per RockstarINTEL. So this is a story with legs: it launches closed, opens gradually, and lands barely two months before GTA 6's November 19 release.
Where FiveM players actually are right now
Here is the thing the beta hype can obscure: nopixel V is the showcase, but the day-to-day heart of GTA roleplay is still the open FiveM scene, and that scene has been moving hard onto FiveM all year. With every platform consolidation — RAGE:MP winding down and large communities migrating — FiveM is where the players settled.
If you are not on the nopixel V invite list, the strongest open FiveM destinations are all on our GTA V / FiveM section. The public version of the world's most famous RP server, NoPixel Public, sits right at the top of the trending table this week as the #1 trending server — the non-invite side of the same team that built nopixel V. It runs serious roleplay with a whitelist, and it is the closest most players will get to that brand of storytelling while nopixel V stays closed.
For the immersive, faction-driven end of the scene, Eclipse RP is the pick: FiveM, serious RP and an economy, built around public factions and structured, story-focused play. New Day RP, BadlandsRP and TwitchRP all offer the long-form, character-driven RP angle — New Day with serious RP and a staff-run economy, Badlands with a story-heavy setting, and TwitchRP (TRP, "Where Stories Begin") with a large staff framework built for narrative and character progression.
If you want the other side of the hobby, RSM Freeroam is FiveM's most popular freeroam and racing server, with thousands of custom vehicles, while Grand RP is the big international community with multiple language servers under a light-RP economy umbrella. Transport Tycoon remains the outlier worth a mention — logistics, trucking and economy simulation rather than policing or crime. Every one of those twelve approved servers in our directory is linkable today, which is more than nopixel V can say.
What to make of it
nopixel V is the most consequential thing to happen to GTA roleplay since FiveM itself, because it proves Rockstar is willing to put its name and launcher behind the scene — and it lands just ahead of GTA 6. But right now it is a small, closed, crash-prone beta. For the vast majority of roleplayers, the open FiveM servers on our list are still the places where the stories are actually being lived.
Watch the closed beta for where the scene is headed. Log into NoPixel Public or Eclipse RP for where it is today.
