GTA 6's Map Is Twice the Size of GTA 5's — What the Cover Story Means for GTA RP

Game Informer's 14-page Leonida cover story confirms hurricanes, 170+ animal species and a map twice the size of GTA 5's — here is what it means for roleplay, and where GTA V's single-platform scene actually stands now.

best GTA V / FiveM servers

Game Informer's Issue 382 cover story, "Welcome to Leonida," is the biggest Grand Theft Auto VI information drop before launch: a 14-page feature with 12 new screenshots and interviews with Rockstar's lead designers, with the digital edition live for subscribers since September 29. Almost all of it describes the single-player game. That still matters here, because the world Rockstar builds now is the world GTA roleplay eventually mods — and this story is the clearest picture of it yet.

What the cover story actually confirms

RockstarINTEL's breakdown of the feature lists the headline items:

  • Hurricanes and tropical storms are in. Leonida's weather is localized, so one district can sit in sunshine while a storm lands on the next one over.
  • More than 170 animal species roam the state — a different order of magnitude from GTA 5's wildlife.
  • A map around twice the size of GTA 5's, per Rockstar's Aaron Garbut, as GTAINTEL relays, with density to match rather than empty distance.
  • Denser NPCs, reworked police systems, phone apps, and a long activity list running from base jumping to mini golf.

Read as a roleplay player, that list is a wishlist. A bigger map means more room for towns that are not Los Santos. Reactive weather gives dispatch and emergency RP something to actually work with. 170-plus animals makes hunting, vet and wildlife-department characters viable. A denser city means street-level scene work stops feeling like a ghost town.

The catch: none of that is roleplay yet

GTA VI releases November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and in the material Rockstar has published it is described as a single-player experience. No online mode has been announced for launch, and no PC version has been announced either. The only public trace of a future online component is the "32-player format" mentioned in a Rockstar statement filed with an Edinburgh employment tribunal, as Rock Paper Shotgun reported — a lobby size, not a roleplay platform.

So the honest read: nothing in this cover story promises a Leonida roleplay server any time soon, and Rockstar's mod guidelines published in September now route multiplayer mods and monetisation through its own Creator Platform. The GTA roleplay you can log into tonight is still built on GTA 5.

The platform you can play on is now exactly one wide

It got narrower this year. RAGE:MP passed its end-of-support date on August 31, 2026, and alt:V wound down weeks earlier, leaving FiveM the only GTA 5 multiplayer platform Take-Two authorises — as Univers-Simu reported. Practically, that means every server worth your time is on one client. The directory reflects it: GameListZone lists 12 approved GTA V / FiveM servers, and all 12 are linkable, meaning each one has a page you can actually open and compare.

The twelve, and who each one is for

ServerTrustGLZ VIPFlagsWhat it is
NoPixel Public31VIP 3Serious RP, whitelistThe public face of the best-known RP brand — the top end of serious roleplay.
Eclipse RP28VIP 2Serious RP, economyCurated, story-focused RP with public factions and quality-of-life systems.
Grand RP29VIP 2Light RP, economyA large international community running multiple language servers.
RSM Freeroam28VIP 2Freeroam, racing, customThe freeroam pick — thousands of custom vehicles, no roleplay homework required.
Lucid City29VIP 1Serious RP, customOptimised for controller players, with custom scripts throughout.
Transport Tycoon28VIP 1Economy, roleplay, customLogistics and trucking simulation — a job-first server with a purpose-built economy.
BadlandsRP28VIP 1Whitelist, serious, storyLong-form character stories backed by an active forum community.
New Day RP28VIP 1Serious RP, whitelistStaff-driven economy, departments and events on FiveM.

The spread is wider than the trust scores suggest. If you want the full whitelist experience with the biggest name attached, start with NoPixel Public at 31. If you want structured story-RP without the months-long queue culture, Eclipse RP and New Day RP both sit at 28 with economy or department systems in place. If you do not want to roleplay at all, RSM Freeroam is the only server in the top tier flagged for freeroam and racing rather than RP. And if you want a job your character can actually build a life around, Transport Tycoon is the outlier — its whole design is logistics, not crime.

What is moving right now

Trending movement this week is led by NoPixel Public at rank 1, followed by BlueBird RP at rank 2, then Lucid City at 3, Grand RP at 4 and RSM Freeroam at 5. Three of those five are serious-RP servers, which is roughly the shape of the whole scene: the FiveM consolidation pushed the heavy-RP communities that used to live on other platforms into the same pool as everyone else, and the servers with the most momentum are the ones absorbing them.

Live this week in GTA Online

Rockstar's own Halloween event is running in GTA Online from October 1 through 7, with the month-long seasonal content back and bonus payouts attached — RockstarINTEL has the rundown. Community servers run their own seasonal calendars, including Halloween prop packs released through the Cfx forums like Halloween Props 2026, so if you are server-hunting this week, a fresh seasonal event is a good time to see how active a community really is.

How to choose

Two filters cut the list fastest. First, whitelist or open: NoPixel Public, BadlandsRP and New Day RP gate entry, which filters out low-effort characters but costs you waiting time; Grand RP, RSM Freeroam and Lucid City let you in without an application. Second, serious or light: Eclipse RP and Lucid City want committed characters, while Grand RP is explicitly light RP and RSM Freeroam skips the fiction entirely.

Everything on the list is on FiveM, and in 2026 that is not a preference — it is the only door left open. When Leonida's map does eventually matter to roleplay, it will matter on the same platform. Until then, the GTA V / FiveM section is where the servers actually are.

About GTA V / FiveM Private Servers

GTA V roleplay servers run on platforms like FiveM, RageMP, and alt:V, transforming Grand Theft Auto V into a deeply immersive multiplayer roleplay experience. Players create persistent characters, choose careers ranging from police officer and paramedic to criminal and business owner, and interact in living virtual cities governed by community rules and custom scripts. Each platform has its strengths — FiveM boasts the largest server ecosystem and active developer community, while alt:V and RageMP offer different scripting environments and modding flexibility. When choosing a GTA V RP server, consider whether it uses a whitelist application process (indicating a serious roleplay environment), the size and activity of its community, the strictness of its rules, the quality of its custom jobs and economy systems, and whether the admin team enforces standards consistently. A well-run RP server creates experiences that rival any single-player game.
