TERA Reforged, the private server working to bring back classic TERA, changed direction on how it restores content. In a devlog published August 2, 2026, the team explained that version 31 of the game, the usual reference point for classic TERA, was itself a trimmed-down cut. Entire regions sat empty, and some dungeons were missing from the files entirely. So the project now pulls content from older versions of the client as well.
Why the change
When people talk about classic TERA, the reference is usually version 31. But as the team moved through content migration, they found that v31 was already reduced. Island of Dawn is the clearest example: a large stretch of the map, including the Mysterious Ruins region, Leander's Outpost, and a dungeon tied to a character named Sorcha, is simply not in v31. The team's reading is that this reduction happened during the move to the level 65 cap, between 2014 and 2015. They have no official documentation to confirm it, but the pattern repeats across the files.
So the new approach is to look for that content where it is still intact, in earlier versions of the client. The Mysterious Ruins region, empty in v31, was the first to go down this path. Spawns and zone quests exist again, with mobs, field bosses, and gathering points. The Island of Dawn dungeon came from version 17 files, entered at a spot called Black Rift Entrance in Tainted Gorge.
New leveling rewards
The devlog also introduced two new kinds of reward for leveling content.
The first is the Valkyon Commendation, a token earned from content below level 60. It shows up alongside the usual rewards when you complete a quest, and it buys account-wide utility items: skins, mounts, bank and inventory expansions, leveling scrolls, and other convenience items. The token is not tradable and cannot be stored in the bank, a restriction meant to stop players from creating throwaway characters just to farm tokens and pass them to a main. The items bought with it, though, can be sold or traded normally.
The second is the Bounty Brokers, NPCs in towns and camps that sell items for tokens earned from the toughest monsters and challenges in each region, like named mobs, elites, and BAMs. On Island of Dawn, the Tower Base Bounty Broker deals in Kugai's Crest, which comes from a boss called Kugai the Mighty, and trades it for gear that can be refined. The idea is to give a clear payoff for taking on the hardest targets in the open world.
What this means for TERA players
TERA's official PC version closed in 2022, so classic TERA lives on through private servers. A project that is actively restoring content from older versions is trying to get closer to the game as it was before the free-to-play model, rather than just running whatever files are easiest to host. That is a meaningful difference for players who want the older experience.
It is still early. The devlog notes that values and mechanics may change, and that the reward catalogs are provisional until the end of the alpha. But the direction is clear.
Comparing TERA servers on GameListZone

TERA Classic and Menma's TERA are the top listings, followed by TERA Asura, TeraCZ, TERA Agaia, Arunkai TERA, TERA Germany, and Old School TERA. A server on the Classic version is closer to the older TERA. A server on Apex or Awakening runs the later content. The version is the first thing to check, because it decides what the game actually looks like.
