Krafton Reportedly Sends TERA Classic+ a Cease and Desist, a Month After Launch

Reports say Krafton has served TERA Classic+ a cease and desist five weeks after its European launch — what the reports actually claim, and where the four approved TERA servers leave you.

TERA Classic+ opened its European server on 21 August 2026. Five weeks later the project is reportedly facing a cease and desist from Krafton, the company that owns what remains of the TERA licence — and the reports have moved considerably faster than any official statement. If you were settling in there for the long haul, this is a week to keep your wallet shut and your options open.

What the reports say

The thread that pushed the story into the open is on r/MMORPG, titled "Tera Classic+ already has to shut down its servers after just a month". According to that thread, the developers behind the server received a cease and desist letter from Krafton telling them to shut it down within one week — shortly after they had invested money into new server hardware.

Posts on X say the same thing in shorter form. The @TERAonline account quotes the team's own notice: "we received an official notice from Krafton requesting that we discontinue operation of the server and remove all use of TERA's intellectual property." A separate post from @WindOfBlades4 puts it plainly: "the tera classic+ server got hit with a cease and desist."

Video coverage has followed. A recent upload, "TERA Classic+ Might Be Dead. Krafton Sent the Letter", describes a project that had lasted "exactly one month" after the European launch.

Two details matter for how you read all of this. First, none of the reports above names a confirmed final date, so treat any precise shutdown date you see elsewhere as unverified. Second, the project's own news page was still publishing days after the reports first appeared: it lists a v0.07 hotfix published on 25 September 2026, with class adjustments and dungeon tuning. A server under a letter can keep patching for a while, and that gap is exactly what makes these situations hard to plan around.

A letter is a demand, not a ruling

A cease and desist is a rights holder's demand that the operator stop, not a court judgment — but in TERA's case the pattern of what follows is well established.

Menma's TERA, for years the best-known server in the scene and the patch lineage a lot of today's projects descend from, shut down in 2025; a retrospective video from April of that year, "Tera Menma's: Good Bye (Shut Down)", covers the closure and the view that it is unlikely to return.

Krafton's position on private servers is also on the record. In January 2026, in response to a server claiming an arrangement with the studio, Krafton told Massively Overpowered: "To be clear, there are no private servers that have an official partnership or agreement with us." The same piece, "TERA Console studio Krafton insists it's never given any private servers an agreement to operate", notes that Krafton has pursued legal action against a server that no longer runs, and that the picture could shift again with a TERA sequel on the horizon.

So the honest reading: a letter is often the beginning of a server's end, but it is the operator — not the letter — that decides whether the lights go off, relocate, or stay on.

The four approved TERA servers, ranked by how they are actually moving

Whatever happens to Classic+, TERA's approved servers are not a single option. All four currently listed on the TERA section are trending this season, and all four are listed without a VIP placement — which makes this a comparison of content rather than of paywalls.

ServerWhat it is forVersionTrust scoreTrending this season
Arborea RebornClassic rebuilt with custom dungeons and rebalanced classes, PvE and PvPClassic28#1
TERA StarscapePure PvE, old dungeons re-enabled, free premium elite benefits, 64-bit NA—27#2
TERA AsuraCustom server on update 100.02, non-target combat, all races and classes—27#3
TERA Europe Classic+Classic+ ruleset with rebuilt classes, dungeons, PvP and its own launcherClassic29#4

That table is worth reading with the news in mind, so here is what each one actually gives you.

Arborea Reborn is the strongest signal in the game right now: first in trending movement and the only approved server carrying both the custom and dungeons flags alongside PvE and PvP. Its trust score of 28 is a point behind the leader. If you want one server that covers group PvE, world PvP and content nobody else has, this is where the momentum is.

TERA Starscape is the specialist: PvE and dungeons only, second in trending, with free premium elite benefits and a long list of older dungeons switched back on. If your interest in TERA was always the dungeon grind rather than the flag fights, this is the narrowest and most deliberate choice on the list.

TERA Asura runs on update 100.02 with non-target combat, all races and classes, and a custom flag that puts it in the same bracket as Arborea Reborn for originality — but weighted toward PvP. Third in trending, trust score 27.

And TERA Europe Classic+ is the one the letter concerns. It carries the highest trust score of the four at 29 and a Classic+ ruleset with rebuilt classes, dungeons and PvP behind its own launcher. It is also fourth in trending movement, which is consistent with a project that just spent a fortnight dealing with a legal demand rather than with players. Nothing here says the server is gone — but until it says something itself, treat it as unproven rather than as your home.

What to do this week

If you are mid-progression on Classic+, the practical moves are simple. Do not buy anything. Screenshot or export whatever you would miss. Watch the project's own news channel and Discord rather than a third-party summary, because the operator is the only party that knows its own timeline. And if you were about to roll a fresh character there, hold off for a week — the four approved servers above are all live options, and three of them have nothing to do with this letter.

That is the real lesson from TERA's private-server history. The game has outlived its official PC service by four years, but individual servers have not — Menma's proved it, and every fresh relaunch has proved it again. Play the game, not the server: keep an account on two, and treat any single project as a lease rather than a purchase. The full set of approved TERA servers, with their versions, flags and reviews, is on the TERA page.

About Tera Private Servers

TERA is an action MMORPG by Bluehole Studio known for its real-time combat system where aiming and dodging matter. Since the official servers shut down, private servers are the only way to play TERA, preserving the game for its dedicated community with classic patches and active endgame content. When looking for a TERA private server, consider the patch version (earlier patches like 92.03 for classic experience or later for more classes and content), server population for dungeon matchmaking, and whether the server offers quality-of-life improvements like increased drop rates or cosmetic shops. Active development and regular content updates are strong signs of a healthy TERA server.
