Soul Reaper Arrives on Aion 5.0 — and What That Means for Private Servers

Gameforge's Aion adds the Soul Reaper class and four new instances on August 26, 2026, the latest reason to check how today's private servers line up with the modern game.

Soul Reaper Arrives on Aion 5.0 — and What That Means for Private Servers

The waiting ends on August 26, 2026. According to Gameforge's Aion forum, that is the day the brand-new Soul Reaper class arrives on the live Aion 5.0 servers, alongside four new instances and a tutorial instance aimed at new Daevas. The announcement was posted in the official "Live Soon: Update 5.0 – Soul Reaper" thread on the Gameforge Aion forum.

That is a meaningful moment for the game, and it is worth a conversation about what it does — and does not — mean for players who spend most of their time on private servers. The new class and instances are a live-server (Gameforge/NCsoft retail) event. Nothing here changes a private server's version or content overnight. But a big retail update has a habit of reshaping where the private-server crowd looks next, so it is a good excuse to check the landscape.

The update, briefly

The headline is the Soul Reaper, a class that has not existed on Aion before. The update also brings four new instances and a dedicated tutorial instance for new players, so it is pitched as both a headline feature and an onboarding refresh. All of that is what the official forum announcement says; the full patch contents will presumably be detailed in the update notes closer to launch.

If you are on a modern retail-like private server, this is the kind of content to watch. If you are on a classic-era server — and much of Aion's private scene is classic-era — the Soul Reaper is not coming to you, because that class belongs to the current retail content line. Knowing which camp you are in before you pick a server saves a lot of disappointment.

The private-server spread on GameListZone

GameListZone currently lists 67 approved Aion servers, of which 25 are linkable — meaning they have a page you can actually visit. Across those, the versions run the full arc of the game: 2.7, 3.0, 4.0, 4.6, 4.8, 5.8, and 7.x Classic. The flags tell the same story, spanning Low Rate, Mid Rate and High Rate, plus PvP, PvE, Abyss, Siege and Custom. In other words, whatever you want out of Aion — the classic Abyss grind or a fast high-rate PvP server — there is likely a version built around it.

If you want the closest thing to retail

For players who like the modern direction of Aion, a retail-like server is the place to start. Aion Soul 8.4 runs the newest content on the list, though at this writing its version field is not filled in and it is flagged PvP. InfiniteAION 7.7 x20 is a high-rate 7.7 PvP server — a fast track to endgame if you want to fight rather than grind. United Aion 4.8 calls itself "Retail-like," with PvP and PvE both flagged, which tends to mean a slower, more authentic progression rather than instant max level.

The honest caveat: none of these will run the Soul Reaper on day one. Retail-like private servers often chase the live version eventually, but a brand-new class is one of the harder things to reproduce, so don't pick a server expecting the August 26 content.

The classic crowd

The bigger share of Aion's private-server identity lives in the classic era, and the versions on GameListZone reflect that. HiveGamez Aion - Classic is the most direct name for it, flagged PvP. Aion 4.6 is a 4.6 server, the era many long-time players consider the sweet spot of the game. Legendary Aion 5.8 covers 5.8, a later-but-still-pre-Classic line. And Aion Oasis rounds out the PvP-focused options.

If you want the pace turned up

For players who do not have time for a classic grind, EuroAion is the high-rate option here, flagged highRate — the server's own pitch mentions quality, stability and high online numbers, which matters because an empty high-rate server is still an empty server.

What the update changes for your choice

The retail Soul Reaper announcement matters to private-server players in two ways. First, it is a reminder that live Aion is still being actively developed, which keeps the pressure on private servers that want to track retail. Second, it is a good filter: a player who wants the newest content should be honest that no private server on this list runs it yet, while a player who wants classic Abyss and Siege play has a strong field to choose from — and those servers are not affected by a retail patch at all.

If the Soul Reaper and its four instances are what you actually want, the honest advice is to play the update on Gameforge's live servers in August. If what you want is a settled, community-run version of Aion — classic 4.6, mid-era 5.8, or a fast 7.7 — the Aion section on GameListZone has servers to compare, with versions and flags laid out on every page.

The announcement thread on the Gameforge forum is worth reading in full if you are curious about the class. For the rest, the question was never "is a private server getting the Soul Reaper" but "which era of Aion do I actually want to play" — and that is a question the server list can answer today.

About Aion Private Servers

Aion is an MMORPG by NCSoft set in a visually stunning fantasy world where aerial combat is as important as ground-level fighting. Players choose between the angelic Elyos and the shadowy Asmodian factions, then battle each other and the mechanical Balaur in the contested Abyss — a massive mid-world PvPvE zone where fortress sieges determine faction dominance and reward. Abyss points earned through PvP kills and siege participation unlock high-tier gear and prestige ranks, making every skirmish meaningful. Private servers focus on beloved classic patches like 4.6 and 5.8, offering the well-balanced class roster, active siege schedules, and rewarding PvP progression that later official updates eroded with pay-to-win mechanics. When choosing an Aion private server, consider the patch version, faction population balance between Elyos and Asmodian, fortress siege frequency and attendance, and whether the server actively manages AP trading exploits.
