Aion Classic 5.0 Goes Live in NA — and EU's Update Is Close
NCSoft's Classic 5.0 patch is live on North American servers, while EU players wait on Gameforge's June-updated schedule for the same content.

Aion Classic 5.0 Is Live on NA — and EU's Version Is Nearing
If you follow Aion at all, you've seen the noise around Classic this year. The 5.0 update has now gone live on the North American servers, with NCSoft's official Classic patch notes published back in late April. Over in Europe, Gameforge's own schedule had pointed to a June arrival, and the team has been fielding questions about the timeline ever since. For a player trying to decide where to land in 2026, that split between regions — and between the official game and the private-server scene — is exactly the story worth unpacking.
What Actually Happened: The 5.0 Rollout
The most concrete piece of news is the official one. According to NCSoft's own Classic patch-notes post on the Aion site, the 5.0 Update is live on the North American Classic servers — the notice, dated 2026-04-24, sits at the top of the Classic announcements board. That is the source to point returning players at: the full patch notes for what changed in the jump to 5.0 are on the official Aion Classic NA notice board.
The European picture is a little more tangled. Gameforge's roadmap originally announced that the 5.0 Update would land on EU Classic in June 2026, and as the month arrived the team posted a follow-up on the official Gameforge Classic forums giving players a status update on the schedule. The tone of those threads is familiar to any long-time Classic player: patience requested, dates provisional. Then, on August 5, the forums lit up with the usual pre-update cadence — a new Daeva Pass season start and the "Help for Mavrok" event, all wrapped in the promise of "additional boosts until the new update." When a studio starts running countdown events with that phrasing, the version drop is usually close.
One thing worth noting for EU players: this is not the first big Classic patch this year. According to Aion Strategies' coverage of the Update 4.5 "Ignite" patch, EU Classic had already moved forward this year with a new class, a new region and fresh progression content before 5.0 became the headline. The 5.0 follow-up is building on that momentum rather than starting from scratch.
Why the Version Landscape Matters
Here's where the official news connects to the private-server scene. The whole reason Classic content cycles matter is that the community has historically spread itself across every era of the game at once — and that is exactly what you see in GameListZone's Aion section today.
The directory currently lists 67 approved Aion servers, of which 25 are linkable, and the spread of versions is a history of the game in miniature. At the older end you have the 2.7 and 3.0 eras, through the heavily populated 4.6 and 4.8 generations, up to 5.8 and the 7.x line that people file under "Classic." Add in the rate and ruleset flags — Low, Mid and High Rate, PvP and PvE, plus Abyss, Siege and Custom tags — and you get a genuinely wide menu for a player choosing where to spend their evenings.
That breadth is the point. The official 5.0 update is a fixed, current target, but a lot of the playerbase still lives in the versions the officials have long since left behind. Whether that is a feature or a bug depends on what you want out of Aion.
Five Servers Worth Comparing
To make this concrete, here is a quick tour of what the current top of the directory looks like — a genuinely representative slice of the version and rate spread.
Aion Soul 8.4 (server page) sits at the forward edge of the custom scene. As the name suggests, it targets an 8.4-era experience, which places it well past the versions the official and most private projects still run — worth a look if you want the newest mechanics.
InfiniteAION 7.7 x20 (server page) is a different philosophy entirely: a 7.7 build tuned around a 20x rate for fast progression and PvP, aimed at players who want to skip the grind and get to the fighting.
HiveGamez Aion - Classic (server page) leans the other way. A classic-tagged server, it is one of the many projects chasing the slower, more faithful early-game feel that keeps the older patches alive.
Aion 4.6 (server page) is a straight-up 4.6 server, named for its era and filed under that version flag — representative of the generation that remains one of the most popular homes for private Aion players.
United Aion 4.8 PvPvE Retail-like (server page) rounds out the mid-generation picture: a 4.8 server wearing both PvP and PvE flags, pitched as a retail-like experience.
That is just five of the 25 you can link straight into from the Aion news hub. Add EuroAion (server page), a high-rate option, Legendary Aion 5.8 (server page) for the 5.8 generation, and Aion Oasis (server page) for another PvP-focused community, and you have a healthy shortlist covering nearly every era and playstyle the game offers.
Where the Private Scene Fits in
The private-server scene has always moved in parallel with the official game rather than chasing it. Right now that means two things happening at once. On one side, the official Classic 5.0 update is a real, datable event — NA has it, EU is closing in on it, and Gameforge's early-August events are the clearest signal yet. On the other side, the community's energy stays spread across the 2.7-to-7.x range, with rate and ruleset flags doing the real work of separating one server from another.
If your priority is keeping current with official content, watch the Gameforge board for the 5.0 announcement and treat the "additional boosts until the new update" events as a heads-up. If your priority is finding a home server, the version and flag spread in the directory does the comparison for you: decide which era you want, pick the rate, and the top of the list will point you somewhere solid.
Either way, it is a good moment to be an Aion player. The official game is moving again, and the private scene has never had more clearly signposted options across the full history of Atreia.
