The news that the Lineage 2 private-server community has been waiting out is finally here — and it comes from the top. NC (formerly NCSOFT) announced in late August that it is opening a brand-new official Live server for Lineage II, the first in 22 years, and per the official announcement and NC's own X account, that server — KAIN — went live on September 15, 2026. For a game that has run on the same Live realms for more than two decades, that is territory Lineage 2 simply does not do anymore, and it is reshuffling what "fresh start" means for everyone playing the game, official or otherwise.

What KAIN actually is

This is not a renamed existing server. The official announcement is emphatic about what makes KAIN different: it is a "completely fresh world" where everyone starts "from day one on equal footing" — no legacy advantage, no head start, a brand-new and separate server for the community. NCsoft has separately billed the line as ReLIVE the Beginning, a fresh-start ruleset alongside the existing Live, Classic, Aden, Wolf and Samurai worlds, aimed squarely at players who want faster progression and a clean economy rather than years of catch-up inside the settled Live market.

The shape of the launch is the story private-server players instinctively understand, because it is the same pitch a well-run x1 opening makes: everyone boots up empty, the auction-house and economy start at zero, and the first weeks decide who controls the server. NC has stacked the deck to make that moment count. Per the official launch-event notes, KAIN's day-one events include an Experience Boost — reported to grant a 500% bonus to EXP and SP for characters below Level 130 — a Vitality Maintaining Event so that hunting regular monsters and bosses does not consume Vitality, free teleports, an Attendance Event, collection and ranking rewards, a Guild Race, a Growth Support Package, the return of Rim Kamaloka, and a Level Achievement Event. The core boost window runs from September 15 through February 9, 2027.

The leveling rewards read like the kind of milestone ladder a fresh-start community actually fights over. Reaching Level 110 reportedly earns the Ruler's Authority Belt, Level 111 a +5 Queen Navari's Mask, and Level 112 your pick of Gran Kain's or Einhasad's Necklace — serious endgame gear handed out for progression rather than grind or cash. Pre-registration for KAIN opened on September 1, with a rewards package of its own, and NC has confirmed the new world runs on Live-style rules and content with its own separate North American economy.

NCsoft has been open that this is a direct answer to player demand. Coverage of the launch notes the devs are responding to calls for a new ReLIVE server, positioning it as a fresh start for returning players and a lower-pressure way for newcomers to "experience the fun of Lineage II." For a 22-year-old MMO that has mostly been coasting on the same Live realms, that is a deliberate bet that what people actually want from Lineage 2 in 2026 is the one thing retail has not offered: a clean slate.

What it does to the private-server scene

Official fresh-start waves and the private scene have a tense, looping relationship. A strong retail opening pulls attention toward official for a few weeks; a stale one sends people back to the rate-customized worlds that have been the reliable home of "Lineage 2 the way I remember it" for years. KAIN is the strongest official pull the game has made in a generation, so it is worth being clear about what it is and is not before you decide where to spend your season.

KAIN is official, current-chronicle Lineage 2 with Live-style content and a boosted fresh start. It is not a classic experience — you will not find Interlude or High Five pacing there, and it will not stay a low-pressure world forever; the 500% boost and event ladder exist precisely to compress you up toward the established endgame so the race to the top is short and sharp. For players whose whole point is the chronicle — the pre-Ertheia pacing, the balanced PvP, the grind as the game — the private side still holds the classic ground official has no interest in returning to.

That is where the Lineage 2 section comes in. If KAIN's announcement has you thinking fresh start, the private catalog offers a real menu of what "new world" can mean, at whatever pace you actually want:

  • Low-rate classics. If you want the fresh-economy feel without the retail fast track, L2Reborn runs long-term, no-pay-to-win progression across multiple chronicles on a low rate with PTS — the anti-KAIN, in the best way: it will not boost you, and that is the appeal. Asterios is a classic Interlude x1-style realm emphasizing balanced PvP and a mature economy without heavy donation advantages.
  • Mid-rate comfort. Scryde, one of the largest High Five projects in the directory, and L2Mid, a long-standing High Five mid-rate realm, sit in the happy middle — boosted past the worst grind but not sprinted.
  • Season-based, no-wipe fresh starts. This is the slice of the private scene that most directly mirrors what KAIN is trying to do. L2Dex runs a free-to-play Interlude+ network with new seasons, no wipes and an anti-bot policy — a fresh-start rhythm on a schedule, chronicle-flavored, that keeps happening whether or not NC launches anything.
  • Instant PvP. If "fresh start" to you means getting into fights now, L2Damage is a high-rate PvP realm promising instant action with no farm, and L2Ketra is a dedicated Interlude PvP server with high rates, custom content and competitive faction play.

The honest take

If you have ever wanted to be on the ground floor of an official Lineage 2 world — to log in when nobody has anything, when the auction house is empty and the first castle siege is still weeks away — KAIN is a genuinely historic shot at it, and that is not a phrase you usually get to use about retail Lineage 2. Pre-registration rewards are still being delivered, the event ladder runs deep into 2027, and the first week is already a race.

But an official fresh start is not a classic one, and after a week of KAIN the question every private player should ask is whether they want to be boosted toward the Live endgame or whether the reason they still play Lineage 2 at all is the chronicle pacing the official game long ago abandoned. NC has finally thrown a serious fresh-start option into the arena; the private scene answers with a full range of paces for the same itch — including low-rate classics like L2Etina that no official boost will ever replace. Pick the fresh start that is actually fresh for the kind of game you want, and line it up in the Lineage 2 server directory.

About Lineage 2 Private Servers

Lineage 2 is a Korean MMORPG by NCSoft known for its large-scale PvP sieges, clan warfare, and deep class system. Private servers for Lineage 2 are extremely popular, especially for classic chronicles like Interlude, High Five, and Gracia Final. Servers range from low-rate Blizzlike experiences to high-rate PvP-focused setups with custom features, enchant systems, and endgame events. When selecting a Lineage 2 private server, pay attention to the chronicle version (Interlude for classic PvP, High Five for more classes and content), server rates, enchant limits, and whether the server runs retail-like gameplay or custom features. Population stability, active GMs, and regular siege events are strong indicators of a healthy L2 community.
