Black Desert's September 23 Patch Hands Every Class the Same New Skill — What That Means on a Private Server

Pearl Abyss shipped a universal Common Skill, a Treasure Codex and a barter overhaul on September 23, and the October 1 finale of Donghwa's Gift follows — here is what actually changes, and where the 28 listed BDO private servers sit against it.

Black Desert Online's September 23, 2026 patch is the one to read if you are weighing up where to play. According to the NA/EU patch notes for September 23, the update contained 81 changes and weighed roughly 1.26GB on that region; the Asia listing for the same date puts its client at about 1.46GB. MMOhuts' summary of the patch describes it as bringing a new Common Skill for all classes, the Treasure Codex, a limited-time Agris drop-rate scroll, and several quality-of-life changes for Barter and sailing.

That is not a routine maintenance week dressed up as news. A skill that behaves identically on every class is a structural change to how combat is built in this game, and it lands a week after the main questline that closes out a decade of story. Both of those facts change the calculus for anyone comparing retail against a private server.

The Common Skill is the part worth arguing about

The Global Lab notes of September 18, as translated and published by Black Desert Foundry, introduce the mechanic directly: "with the finale of Black Desert Act 1 upon us, we'd like to introduce the new 'Common Skill'." Per those notes, the skill inflicts Knockdown on monsters and dismounts Adventurers, with further work under way to make it more useful in PvP.

MMORPG.com's write-up of the September 23 patch frames the same thing more plainly — a Common Skill for everyone, an expanded La Orzeca, and a Treasure Codex to organise and check what you have collected. The distinguishing feature, as GameMarket's patch breakdown puts it, is that unlike class-specific abilities the Common Skill is designed to behave the same way across every character.

Read that against how private servers are actually built. Custom and mid-rate servers are pinned to specific client builds and curated skill sets — a universal, class-agnostic skill is exactly the kind of thing that arrives on retail and then arrives on private servers later, partially, or in a reworked form matching whatever client the server runs. If your reason for playing private is that you liked the game at a particular point in its life, this is a patch you are not getting on day one.

Act 1 is finished, and most private servers are not there

Two weeks before this patch, the story side moved. MMORPG.com reported on September 18 that the final chapter of Black Desert Online's Act 1 had arrived with the week's update — the Inner Edania questline, and Hadum. Bleeding Cool's September 21 piece on Edania Part II notes that Hadum arrives as the final boss, requiring 428 AP, 520 DP, and Red grade gear. The September 17 patch that carried it was a big one: per the September 17 NA/EU patch notes, 100 updates and approximately 4.58GB.

A 10-year main storyline reaching its Act 1 conclusion is a genuine milestone, and it is also the sharpest dividing line between the two ways to play Black Desert. If you are on a private server, ask what client it runs before you ask what its rates are. Black Desert - NextZBD Private Server states a Client Version of 223 with monster EXP at x15 — a specific, older snapshot, not the live branch. Project BDO advertises "original files" and says it starts low with the Lahn class. Neither promise is the same promise as the finished Act 1, and knowing which one you are buying matters more than a rate table.

October 1 is an enhancement-gift week on retail

The other dated thing to know: Pearl Abyss's notice Donghwa's Gift — Finale is Coming previews a special event beginning October 1 (Thu) after maintenance, with 14-day special login rewards that include an Advice of Valks (+250) Box and up to 6,000 Cron Stones.

Cron Stones and Advice of Valks are enhancement materials, which is the one place this retail giveaway genuinely maps onto private-server life. Several listed servers hand you the enhancement experience directly instead of the ingredients: Deserted Desert runs custom rates with increased enhancement chance and monsters dropping pearls. If you are chasing the enhancement loop rather than the story, a custom server's stated rates can get you further than a login-reward calendar — but only where the listing actually says so.

What else changed, and what is coming

The barter changes are quieter but real. One breakdown of the patch reports that after September 23, stopping near a Wharf Manager lets you accept quests, repair and resupply, manage sailors, and load cargo without leaving the ship, and Barter Information now shows distance as well. For lifeskill-minded players that is a meaningful reduction in sailing downtime — and the grounding for this game's section shows Lifeskill is one of the flags in use across the category, alongside PvP, PvE, Enhanced Rates, Node War, Siege and Custom.

On the PvP calendar, Pearl Abyss's Arena of Solare: Community Clash notice schedules an EU tournament for October 3, 2026 at 14:00 UTC (16:00 CEST), with content creators and Ambassadors competing in the 3v3 equalised-gear mode. If your private server lives on node wars and sieges, the retail arena remains a different sport — but it is the free one to watch.

Where the 28 servers sit right now

GameListZone lists 28 approved servers for BDO, and all 28 are linkable — every one has a page you can actually open. The version spread is Global, SEA, Remastered and Custom.

Movement over the recent window is led by Gamez Black Desert - Private Server, which sits rank 1 in trending and advertises Exp 500% and Drop 500% with custom features and events, no Pay2Win. Behind it, Epic Desert Online is rank 2 and Desertale rank 3 — Desertale is flagged PvP and describes itself as a new-old server "opening soon" and testing drops. Re-birth legend takes rank 4 and Lucent Black Desert Online Corsair rank 5.

For the high-rate crowd, New Era Black Desert BETA publishes EXP x90, Drop x30, Skill x70 and training horse at 200x. Among the PvP-flagged listings, Dream BD positions itself as up-and-coming with minimal bugs, and ETERNAL BD says outright that endgame will change rather than being another retail clone with higher numbers — which is a direct answer to the Common Skill question above.

How to use the patch when you shop

Three questions, in order. First: what client is this server on? That decides whether the new Common Skill, the Treasure Codex and the finished Act 1 exist for you at all. Second: does the listing state its rates, or only imply them? Gamez, New Era and Deserted Desert all put numbers in writing; anything that does not is not a comparison you can make. Third: what is the server for — PvP and node war, lifeskill and sailing, or custom enhancement rules.

Start at the Black Desert Online news section and work down the list. Retail just had one of its bigger weeks of the year; the private side rewards you for knowing exactly which week of Black Desert you are signing up to play.

About Black Desert Online Private Servers

Black Desert Online is an action-oriented MMORPG by Pearl Abyss renowned for its fluid real-time combat, breathtaking graphics, and one of the deepest life skill systems in any MMO — covering fishing, trading, alchemy, cooking, horse training, and more. Node Wars and Siege Wars pit guilds against each other for control of nodes and castles, providing structured large-scale PvP that drives guild recruitment and server politics. Private servers offer the BDO experience without the aggressive pay-to-win monetization of the official version, typically featuring boosted AP/DP progression rates, more accessible enhancement systems, and quality-of-life improvements. When evaluating a BDO private server, consider the maturity of the emulation (how much content is implemented and bug-free), available classes, node and siege war activity, cash shop fairness, and whether the server skews toward PvP-focused or life-skill-friendly gameplay.
