Aion Reforged Opens October 20 — and Classic's 5.5 Update Lands in the Same Window
NCsoft's new Reforged server goes live October 20 alongside the Classic 5.5 update and a legacy server merge — here is what changed, what is still speculation, and what it means for private-server players choosing a version.

Aion Reforged Opens October 20 — and Classic's 5.5 Update Lands in the Same Window
October is shaping up to be the busiest month Aion has had in years, and Aion 2 is only part of the reason. NCsoft is preparing a second, separate push on the original game — a new server, a Classic update, and a merge of the legacy shards, all inside the same few weeks.
NCsoft has a date: October 20
NCSOFT has set October 20, 2026 as the launch date for Aion Reforged, a new server for the original Aion MMO. Pre-registration is open on the official portal through October 19, with milestone rewards aimed at both new arrivals and existing Aion Classic players, according to MMOHuts.
The official site sharpens the edges of that window: pre-registration runs from Monday, September 21 at 5:00 PM PDT until Monday, October 19 at 11:59 PM PDT, and the reward coupons become usable from Tuesday, October 20 at 6:00 PM PDT through Friday, December 25 at 11:59 PM PST. The headline reward is the Dazzling Wings of Dawn Box, which lets you choose one of four wing pairs — Aerope's Wings, Persephone's Wings, Boreas's Wings or Tyr's Wings — as AionStrategies details.
What Reforged actually is — and what is only speculation
This distinction matters, because the marketing language and the community's reading of it are not the same thing.
MassivelyOP reports NCsoft describing Reforged as a "new auto-hunt server" offering "versatile progression" through a variety of activities such as field hunting, fortress battles and item collecting. The same article notes that Reddit is speculating the server may be an import of the Aion Remake server with more streamlined progression, class revamps, zone reworks and a unified inventory. That is community guesswork rather than a confirmed feature list, and it should be read that way (MassivelyOP).
What is confirmed is a fresh Atreia realm built around a heavily revised version of familiar locations, systems and progression, running alongside Classic rather than replacing it.
The 5.5 Classic update ships in the same window
Reforged's start coincides with the global 5.5 update for Aion Classic, per MMOChronicles, and NCsoft's own Classic notice board folds both into a single campaign — "Pre-Register for Aion Reforged and the 5.5 Classic Update today" (official Classic announcements).
One consequence already carries a hard date. The quarter 3 Classic costume rotation ends on September 29, because the costume system is being revamped as part of the upcoming 5.5 update and the Reforged launch (official notice). If you are still spending rotation currency on Classic, that is your deadline, and it is not a soft one.
The legacy shards are merging
Reforged is not landing on an unchanged live service. NCsoft has also posted a detailed server merge notice stating that after the merge you will play in an environment based on the Siel server's settings, with the familiar name-conflict rules — duplicate names at different levels resolve in favour of the higher-level character — plus published migration guidance for character names and guild warehouses (official merge notice; MMOHuts).
So October 20 is a three-way decision for anyone currently on official Classic: merge onto Siel-based settings, roll fresh on Reforged, or hold position and see what 5.5 does to the game you already have.
Three ways to play Aion inside about six weeks
Worth stating plainly, because it is unusual for a franchise this old. Aion 2 opened Global Early Access on September 30 with its full launch following on October 5, according to Aion2Hub. Reforged arrives on October 20. Between the sequel, the relaunch server and the Classic update, a lapsed Aion player has three different doors opening in roughly a month — and none of them is the private-server catalogue.
What this means if you play on private servers
A retail relaunch does not invalidate the private scene. If anything, it underlines how version-dependent Aion has always been: the thing that keeps people on a 4.6 or a 5.8 is a specific build and a specific ruleset that NCsoft is never going to run again.
Right now GameListZone lists 43 approved Aion servers, all 43 of them linkable, spread across seven version families — 2.7, 3.0, 4.0, 4.6, 4.8, 5.8 and 7.x Classic. What follows is how that catalogue lines up against each half of the October news.
If you want to stay near the top of the version ladder. HiveGamez Aion - Classic runs the 7.x Classic client with a PvP flag and a trust score of 26, and describes itself as a fair-play experience with no pay-to-win — a reasonable landing spot for someone who wants Reforged-era content without the auto-hunt framing. Legendary Aion 5.8 is the 5.8 pick at trust 26, built around what it calls premium GEO files, MESH, launchers, themes and bot systems, which makes it a fit for players who care as much about tooling and polish as about content.
The 4.8 middle ground. 4.8 remains the most crowded version family in the list. United Aion 4.8 PvPvE Retail-like carries both PvP and PvE flags at trust 26 and is exactly what its name says: a retail-style experience with its own rates. Beyond Aion 4.8 - since 2015 is the veteran of the two, its listing flagging the 4.8 client, custom features, events, frequent updates, and notably no VIP and no Gold Pack, at trust 26. If the reason you left retail was a cash shop, those two lines are the ones to compare.
Old-school 4.6, where the interest currently is. Aion 4.6 is a Classic PvE and PvP build at trust 25, put together on a 4.6 PvPvE base with its own changes and items drawn from the Korean official classic server. Aion Reclaim 4.6 is the most trending Aion server on the site this week, sitting at rank 1, with Aion America: Endless War 4.6 at rank 4 — the latter a North American realm. A 4.6 realm topping the trending list in the same week a relaunch server is announced is the clearest signal that the audience for older clients is not moving.
PvE, custom and high-rate corners. AionPVE 4.75 is PvE-only at trust 25, tied to a database site carrying stigma builds for every version. Beritra 4.7.5 is PvP-flagged at trust 25 with its own Elyos-versus-Asmodian framing and community. Elden Aion - 3.9 Retail - Europe is the high-rate option at trust 25, listing 2.7 classic gameplay on dedicated European hardware. The newer 7.7 client, meanwhile, is represented in the trending top five by AionPT - 7.7 at rank 5, and CLOSE Aion Rising 3.9 PvP holds rank 3.
Across the board, 35 of the 43 approved servers are showing trending movement. That is a lot of churn for a catalogue whose retail counterpart is about to be relaunched — and it argues against waiting to see how October settles before picking a version.
The short version
Pre-register by October 19 if you want the Wings of Dawn. Clear your Classic costume rotation before September 29. Expect the legacy official servers to consolidate onto Siel-based settings. And if your interest is in a specific Aion — a 4.6, a 5.8, a custom 4.8, a 7.7 — none of the October news replaces that, it just makes the choice more interesting.
You can compare every Aion realm and its current flags on the Aion news hub.
