Mojang's next drop, Chaos Cubed (version 26.2), releases on June 16, 2026, continuing the new cadence of smaller, more frequent updates. This one digs underground. Here is what is coming and how to handle update day if you mostly play on servers.


What is in Chaos Cubed


  • Sulfur Caves, a new overworld cave biome packed with two new block sets: cinnabar and sulfur.
  • The Sulfur Cube, one of the strangest blocks Mojang has ever shipped. It absorbs other blocks it touches. Feed it wood and it bounces around like a cubic ball. Feed it ice and it slides across surfaces. Expect minigame makers to do unspeakable things with this.
  • On Bedrock, a proper party system: groups of up to 15 players can move together between Realms and worlds through the social menu.

    • This follows March's Tiny Takeover (26.1), which gave every baby mob a unique model, added the golden dandelion and made name tags craftable. Next in line is Dappled Forest (26.3) in Q3 with a new forest biome, and a native Bedrock release for Nintendo Switch 2 later in the year with Vibrant Visuals support.


    Why your server will not update on day one


    Most multiplayer servers do not run vanilla software. They run Paper, Purpur, Fabric or Forge with dozens of plugins or mods, and every one of those needs to be rebuilt and tested against 26.2 before a server can safely upgrade. The usual rhythm looks like this:


  • Day 1: vanilla and lightly-modded servers update. Big networks stay put.
  • Week 1 to 2: Paper stabilizes, popular plugins ship compatible builds.
  • Week 2 to 4: large survival and minigame networks migrate, often with a fresh resource world so players can mine the new sulfur caves on an untouched map.

    • If your server has not updated yet, that is not laziness. It is the responsible path. Updating early with broken plugins is how worlds get corrupted.


    Practical tips for players


  • Check the version your server runs before letting your launcher auto-update. If the server is on 26.1, a 26.2 client may not connect. Keep an older profile in your launcher so you can join either way.
  • Expect resource world resets shortly after the server updates. That is your window to be first into sulfur caves.
  • If you run your own small server for friends, take a full backup before upgrading. Every major biome update rewrites chunk generation, and there is no undo.

  • Wait for stable builds of your server software, then test plugins on a staging copy.
